lessons from a boo bear.

We are teaching our son a lot of things these days, as it's obvious he can comprehend what we say.

He knows how to ask for more chippies (chips)... "Chippies! Ppp-llllease! (if you have heard him talk, you probably know that he rolls his "l's")
He knows that if he spills something to grab a rag from the kitchen & wipe it up. (i usually have to go behind him & actually wipe it up.)
He knows how to throw things away. (yes, we have lost a remote & recovered a cell phone from the trash.)
He always says "THANK YOU. BYE." to the kind grocers at stores.
He can clean up his toys & loves to sing that Barney clean-up song while he does it. (he's really slow. one toy at a time, out of 30 toys. so, i help him a lot. because i'm not patient.)
He knows to be gentle with puppy dogs & little babies.
He knows how to count to 5 & the color green. (yeah, we have a long way to go in this area.)

And some more things in-between all that cuteness. Teaching most of these things has had it's challenging moments, of course... he's a little human.

I share all of this not to boast that we have some super-awesome-quick learning-go getter of a child. Or to boast that we are super-awesome-hard-working-diligent parents. There is perhaps some truth in both of those. He is an amazing little boy. We do try really hard as parents.

I share this because, of all the things we are trying to teach him... he is daily teaching us so much more.

Truly, the gift of parenthood is never-ending.

Here are a few things that Asher has taught us about life... I hope to never move past & always allow to enlighten my soul. Your kid will challenge you, test your limits, push buttons you didn't know existed, & in moments make you think you're going insane. They will be demanding, rude, irrational, & sometimes hit you in the face, causing your nose to bleed (three times. one week. it happened. [he hit my piercing. yowza!]).

But. They will also teach you to smell the roses. To literally stop. And smell those God-made, deliciously red, wild roses.

Here's to my boy & the things his heart of 20 months has taught me thus far:

To spend real, unplugged, side by side time with his Daddy. To be fully present when I'm with my husband. To get excited when he comes home from work-- I mean, drop all I am doing, rush to the door & greet him. My husband walking through the door every single night IS something to be celebrated.

To run wild & free. To yearn for the outdoors. To show up at every new or old place with curiosity, enthusiasm, & gratuity.... for, every place holds either God's nature, which is to be adored, appreciated, & explored;  or holds God's people, which are also to be adored, appreciated, & explored!
He reminds me of how sweet it feels to be loved, unconditionally loved. This boy has empathy as a gift, running deep through his blood. If I am ever crying, he is quick to console me. Drop all he is doing, come to my side, & console me. If he hears a baby crying, he always becomes very worried saying, "Mama. Mama. Mama. Cry. Baby cry. Oh, Mama." The picture above is at our first mid-wife appointment, as she was listening for baby's heart... Asher had never seen anything like this & grew concerned. He came right next to me & cuddled up. We should all do that, you know....drop what we are doing to hold someone.
Friends. He LOVES his friends. He talks about them, first thing most mornings. "Jovies! Kenleys!" He talks about his friends in the car. "MAC AND REECE. Mama. Mama. Mama. Mama. MAC AND REECE." If we are driving close by a friend's house, he recognizes the area shouting their name, "Mama... Mama... Hey, Mama... Ruuuufie!". It's sweet & super obvious that his little buddies mean a lot to him. He's thinking of them all the time & telling me about them...all the time. Cherishing the GIFT that is friendship; he does that so well.

(he even loves friends that aren't real.  something to learn there, too... we all have people that aren't a real friend to us. we should love them. scoop them up, embrace them, & invite them to watch Finding Nemo. love those who don't love you.)

He is never afraid to try something new.  He saw a group of kids hula hooping at the Creative Discovery Museum, & without hesitation, ran up & began to try. The hoop was way too big. He is not near coordinated enough. But, none of those facts stopped him from trying. It didn't phase him that he would potentially fail in front of older kiddos, he just went for it! And, when he did fail at hula hooping, he just started dancing! He danced & danced & eventually, they all joined in his dancing. Try new things. Don't worry about failing or what others will think of your failing. Truly, you don't know what you can or cannot do until you try. A tad cliche, but a whole lotta truth, my friend.

He's a good steward of this earth. At the park, he will spend a lot of time picking up & throwing away trash. It is important. We should all take care of this earth & find the joy in doing it.
This blue eyed, messy haired, non-stop talking, running everywhere, loud singing, empathetic, belly laugher of a little boy is SUCH pure joy to his daddy & me.
I knew when I first held him that the love was deep, unconditional, & a gift... so much so that you feel as if your heart may explode. And that love, that explosive, heart throbbing til it aches kind of love fills my heart with so much gratitude that God would allow us to have something so precious. A gift. This boy is such a gift.

Asher boy, Boo Bear, Bugsy, Ash, Turkey, The Boo, Asher Bryant, thank YOU for how you are shaping your Daddy & me to be better versions of ourselves. Thank YOU for your patience as we make mistakes along the way. Thank YOU for loving us unconditionally even when we fail you. Thank YOU for reminding us that it's okay & really rather lovely to walk a little slower. Thank YOU for making us laugh on the harder days. Thank YOU for reminding us that it really isn't about us. Thank YOU for revealing the handprints of God to us in a way that only you can, sweet boy.

I truly hope you learn as much from us, through God's mercy, about the beauty in this life as we are learning from you.

April oils bring May health!

This month we will be placing an order for three different essential oils, & you can read about them below!  Peace & Calming, GentleBaby, & Lavender.

Peace & Calming; used to diffuse during Asher's nap, which without fail lulls him to sleep like the sweetest lullaby. Seriously. Every single time.  I also use it for perfume because it smells amazing. Have you ever looked up what ingredients are in perfumes? You should. Peace & Calming is made of 5 different oils & is truly an aid in calming nerves. People even use it for feisty, agitated, or restless animals! It smells HEAVENLY!

Gentle Baby; as we get ready for baby number two, Sa(i)ge to make his/her appearance I am slowly purchasing oils before the birth to have on hand, that way it isn't some huge order in October. Essential Oils come at a price. You get what you pay for... If you purchase outside of Young Living makes sure you take time to research the company's distilling & purity! It's important. You're putting it in YOUR body. It is important.  It's used for Mama & baby during pregnancy & afterbirth.  During pregnancy it can be used to help the skin stretching, reducing stretch marks. It also helps rid acne scars! It's calming affect is also used & amazing for during labor- for Mama & Dad! And, afterbirth is used for colicky baby & just putting baby at ease.

Lavender; the pollen count in Chattanooga is off the charts- literally. So, allergies are so common! Last year we fought them & they were ruthless. Because we didn't load up on tons of medicines last year our bodies are doing a much better job this season responding to them minimally. You can build up your immune system to do this type of wonder, you know. (Lots of water. Lots of rest. Lots of Apple Cider Vinegar baths. Lots of lemon water. Homemade cough syrup. Steamy showers. Etc.) So, this year we have been diffusing Lemon, Peppermint, & Lavender to fight off the ugly symptoms of allergies-- and it has worked miraculously!
EX- Josh had a sore throat yesterday. He drank two big glasses of water with TWO drops of lemon in them & literally minutes later the soar throat was donezo.
Several mornings Asher has woken up with a touch of a fever, runny nose, & red eyes... & after applying Thieves & Lavender, the fever disappears, working like a children's tylenol without the unknown side-affects & helps him BUILD his immunity to harsh seasons!

Lavender can be used for COUNTLESS reasons... it's ammmmazing!  And Thieves, this stuff is gold. It's the "swiss army knife" of essential oils. Highly recommend having this bad boy on hand, always. It smells like Christmas! Read about it. The way it came about is fascinating.

So, these are the three Young Living Essential Orders I am placing this month! I have a whole list of what oils I want before baby Sa(i)ge gets here, so it's pretty fun already ordering things in honor of his/her life!

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, share any thoughts, or research oils on your own! Their history is deep, their use is endless, their power is real, & their existence if from God above, truly. :)
And, if you are interested in our story of how we got started with Young Living or our hearts behind it, you can read that: HERE.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:14(NKJV)

Essential Oil Journey !

Eek! I am SO excited to be a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils & am so humbled that you would take time to read some of my heart as to why!

First, I want to promise to never blow up your Facebook feed about selling oils. I know we all grow a tad weary of the person who non-stop sells ____ through Facebook. I applaud their passion, though. So many lack passion about anything. BUT, it does get old. So, I promise to not be that person, & officially invite you to kindly tell me if I am. :)

Second, I do promise to share stories about what Young Living Essential Oils are doing for our family! You can read them. You can criticize them. You can think I am stretching truth. You can skip right over what I share. Or, you can read with an open mind & let your own curiosity go wild!

Over a year ago, a precious woman who was a HUGE part of our pregnancy with Asher, his birth, & still in his life, introduced us to the power & beauty of oils.

Margie Wallis, in the Plano/Frisco area, introduced us to oils as we had decided to not introduce our kiddo to modern medicine. (yes, there is a time & place for that. yes, we are grateful for doctors. we are not anti-medical field.) She is a child birth educator, mid-wife in training, mama to four boys, & a SAINT of a woman. And, she is an ENDLESS well of knowledge when it comes to a holistic approach of raising up children.

After a year of using Essential Oils from everything from teething to rashes, sore throats to muscle cramps, sleeplessness to pregnancy woes, migraines to cranky toddler-ness...and so much more... we have decided to become wholesalers for Young Living, with GREAT enthusiasm.

I honestly have not even read or dived into what we get in return for purchasing oils for others, because what I truly care about is others using oils. Please hear my sincerity in that. This has nothing to do with personal gain but wanting others to experience what we have through oils! If we were needing extra income this is not the route I would pursue, it has NOTHING to do with that.

Oils have been around for YEARS. YEARS. King Jesus was anointed with oils at his birth & all throughout the rest of his life. The Bible has over 200 references to oils being used! One of my favorite things about using oils is diving into the history of them. The story of Thieves & Valor seriously brings tears to my eyes. It's so powerful! Another favorite is that any time my kid is feverish or hits his pumpkin head for the 100th time I get to apply oils & pray aloud over him! It's really special & really intentional.  I feel so privileged to hold these oils in my hand & to have the power of prayer.

Josh & I are passionate about using oils for endless reasons... I would LOVE for you to be on this journey with us. To find an alternative to medicine with us. To allow your curiosity to read about them, research them yourself, & be enlightened by their purity. Please do! We are so privileged to have SO much knowledge right at our fingertips... don't stop learning, dear friend. D

So, skip over my blogs & posts about it & be skeptical & critical. OR, have an open mind & experience the true loveliness that our great, great, great, great ancestors used for medicine!

Thanks for taking the time to read the back story of how we got started & the why's of it. I am SO happy to answer any question you may have! Please don't hesitate.
